The Ultimate Blog Exchange Experiment Begins!
My experiment to discover whether 25,000 hits off BlogExplosion will have any effect on long-term readership, however ill-advised it may be, is about to begin. If you didn't read the original post, check it out here.
Here's how I'll be monitoring things: On a weekly basis, I'll be logging changes in my comment volume, the number of Google links, the number of Technorati links and the amount of fan/hate mail I get.
Since, as we all know, BE will bring in a plethora of hits, I don't that reporting my hit levels will have any meaning. Instead, every 2500 visitors, I'll be hitting the 'pause' button on the BE campaign (yes, there is one) for a week. During this time, no hits will come from BE. So, over the course of those weeks, I'll be comparing my hits to pre-experiment levels.
With any luck, I'll be able to post all of this info in a nicely formatted way that everyone can follow, but I make no promises. So, here goes...

Good luck with this one... I can't wait to see how it works out.
P.S. Found you through BlogExplosion, of course!
Very interesting!
I like your statistical approach. I also think hits are totally irrelevant when talking about blogs. Not only because of BlogExplosion but also because of the 'Next Blog' Blogger bar and other such tools.
The only way assess the value of your blog is to linking and commenting, as I exposed it here.
Cheers.
What they said.
I'm interested to see how this goes.
Just leaving a comment to say i found you on blog explosion and read your post. i'm interested in how much reading goes on on these blog exchanges too, so i'll be watching.
Blog hits, are only really important if there is some reason you need or want the hits. For example, yes you can buy the blog hits from BE for $130, but unless you have some sort of plan to make that money back as a result of the hits. . . is it ever going to be worth it? Worth it, might be that you would just get some kick out of the visits.
Im a huge fan of useful content. . . you will get more hits for a longer period of time, if you carefully 'tag' your blogs, and add good content related to those tags. . .
Or, I could be really wrong!! Good luck with those 23k hits!!
I just did a couple of weeks comparing 6 blog exchanges and posted some findings, although not actual figures.
Take a look: http://chromatius.blogspot.com/2005/09/webblog-traffic-exchange-comparison.html
I was thinking of posting the results, but I like the sound of your 'pause BE' methodology.
I might borrow it if you don't mind.
P.S. Found you on BE
I will let you know ahead of time, the only thing you will see is a vast increase in traffic. Blog Explosion is not about quality visitors it is about quanity. Most people spend the bare minimum of 30 seconds on each site only to get traffic for their site. You will develop a few readers that will follow your blog but don't expect tons of comments on each post. Expect 1-3 comments every couple of posts. Trust me. 2 of my blogs have over 15,000 BE visits, so I have been there and done that. Your best bet is to try and attract visitors interested in your content via forums and other sites.
if you are looking for people who will comment on your blog then join http://xposure.nu/?referrer=916
You will get comments with this service since you have to comment on 3 assigned blogs every 3 days to remain active. In turn 3 people will comment on your blog. Of course I have been getting more than the 3 people commenting with each email. Try it out. You have nothing to loose except for a couple of minutes adding some code and a couple of minutes commenting on a couple of other blogs every other day
I don't use BE to get hits. I use it to see new sites.

Thanks for the interest, all.
Brew and DJ - I think you're quite right. I have absolutely no plan to make back the money. But my motivation here isn't really to become a blog superstar, though I'll admit that having a few extra readers will be nice. Basically, my interest in the experiment is academic.
I've never seen anyone display a statistical analysis of this most extreme use of the blogexchange before, so I thought, hey, why not me?
Another visitor from BlogExplosion! I read and enjoyed your comments on your experiment, and wrote a littlebit myself regarding the BE experience (along with other rubbish!) here.
Or maybe I'm not really interested, and just using this as an excuse to get myself interlinked...
BTW: BE really does seem to heavily pump some pages - there's 3 or 4 sites I'm seeing once every 10 reloads!
I am here from BE as well.
I also noticed you had a post about the DDR Dance Pad.
My son has one, stop by and check out my post titled "To Dance, Perchance to Dream" from July 14, 2005. (not tryiing to spam you, I just thought you'd get a kick out of it LOL)
Best wishes to you!
