Friends, Family and Blogs
A couple of emails from old friends which delivered some interesting news sparked this question in me. I wonder, for those of you who have quasi-personal blogs (my definition of quasi-personal, by the way, means something like this blog - a blog where you are free to discuss your opinions on the world as well as certain aspects of your life, but one that leaves out a significant portion of your private, day-to-day life), how many of you are visited by friends and family. I know that my Dad and my brother read this blog on a semi-regular basis, but as far as I know, no one else in my family or circle of friends does.
Personally, I'd love to have more friends and family members frequent my blog. I don't share anything private here, obviously, so I don't think there would be any harm done. It would be a good way, I think, to let people know what the big things going on in my life are.
What about you? Do you like having people you know in meatspace (apparently that's what all the cool SF kids are calling it now) browsing your blog?

I have no idea whether or not people who are my friends and family in "meatspace" visit my blog, but if they did I would feel OK about it. I suspect some do.
I'm very cautious about family members, because I do write a lot of non-flattering things about my mother in particular, but most friends are welcome to read what I write.
That said, there are some things I do not share on the blog, knowing that it is not "private". Also, because I have a 20 year old daughter who reads it from time to time, I don't talk much about my sex life, past or present.
I love it when my friends or family read my blog. I even put the address of it in the signature line of all my emails, so they remember to check on the updates from time to time. My father lives out of state and this is a good way for him to keep in touch with me so to speak. I also have a blog like yours. My life, and my opinions on other things. I think you should get them to read it more.
Hello fellow canuck. I am happy enough for friends and family to visit my Blog, but I don't actively encourage it. If they have a true interest they will visit my blog without too much prodding. It's unfortunate that most of us (including myself) are not comfortable delving into more private material since therein lies the basis of many interesting, provocative posts. Overall, I really want to expose my blog to as wide an audience as possible.
2 of my blogs, sure, I wouldn't mind who read them, but the personal one, not so clear cut. There are some that I wouldn't have a problem reading my blogs but others.....
I keep my life and my blog fully separated. It's my secret life if you will. So no, I wouldn't want any leakages either way.
I'd rather not have most of my friends and family visit my blog, because it's my private space (that's completely public!-lol). My girlfriend and one other friend visit and that's cool, but having everyone I know visit would limit me on my subjects and possibly make me too self-concious to be completely honest in what I say. Good question!
I just started my blog a week or two ago. I've invited both family and friends. It may limit what I have to say, but I wasn't planning to share anything really personal anyway.
my most regular visitors are probably family and friends (I think my mum is my biggest fan, visiting the site several times a day).
Then again, it could be because of the international nature of my relationships, it's much easier for folks to catch up on my opinions and the big things of my life via my blog than a long-distance phonecall, since I'm terrible at writing emails.
It does limit some private thoughts, especially if it fringes on my work, but some things are better left private anyway!
