Croupier
The movie box promotes this film as a thriller but, if it is a thriller, it's one of the most sluggishly paced thrillers ever made. Clive Owen turned in a spectacularly subdued performance as writer/croupier Jack/Jake and really held the movie together, even when a heist subplot threatened to make the whole thing just a little bit silly. It definitely won't keep you on the edge of your seat, but a good film to check out nonetheless. My grade: BSynopsis: The gripping story of a writer who gets more than he bargained for when he takes a job at a casino in order to gather material for a novel. As he falls deeper into his life as a dealer, he finds himself becoming the wretched character that he's been writing about. (via Yahoo)
Director: Mike Hodges (Get Carter - the original, not the crappy Stallone remake)
Writer: Paul Mayersberg (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence)
Stars: Clive Owen (Closer), Gina McKee (Wonderland), Alex Kingston (Essex Boys)
Useless Trivia: Clive Owen prepared for the role by being trained by professional croupiers.

It's a very strong film that will hopefully get more attention as Clive gets more popular.
I thought it was a very strong film, with good performances across the board, worthy of a B+ or A-.
