Katrina Photo Album

Unlike most of the rest of the blogosphere, I haven't mentioned Katrina at all. That's because, well, what can I add? I've never even had a basement flood, or been without power for more than two days. As far as the politics of Katrina go, most people have been accusing FEMA and the Bush administration of gross incompetence. Oh my, really? What a surprise! And, although I agree that the government's response to Katrina has been an unmitigated disaster, it's not my government, now is it? (Of course, the Canadian government wasn't very quick off the mark to offer support, either.)

Anyhow, I'd like to present to you an album of photos taken by a New Orleans resident took over the course of five days, covering the mood before Katrina, the day of, and the flooding after. It's eye-opening. There are nearly 200 photos (all with captions), so block out a few minutes of your schedule to look at them.

For some even better shots, check out http://www.mgno.com if you havent seen it already. This guy and his team stayed in (and are still in) NO so they could keep their webhosting servers online and provide services to help aid the victims. Read his blog starting several days before Katrina all the way til now. They took tons of photos and even have a webcam up showing live feeds of the streets outside their office buildings (this has been up for SEVERAL days now, I saw some fires and looters and stuff on it in the days immediately following the hurricane).

Saw those over at All Kinds of Writing the other day.

Too bad I tuned in so late.

What's impressing in that album (the one at Kodak) is to see how well NO handled the hurricane until the floods came in to play. That make me wonder if the Government did everything that was on their hands to secure NO's defences.

Nice blog by the way.

Ps: mgno pics are great as an archive of the situation, but someone should classify them in any way as there are too many photos to browse.
